Special seisiún ceoil at Ennis’s pub, Killucan

On the evening of Monday March 13, a special seisiún ceoil of traditional Irish music was held at Ennis’s pub in Killucan.

The event, which marked the launch of ‘Trad’, was attended by both young and not so young local musicians who were eager to get involved in the excitement of traditional Irish music.

The session was a great success, and a mixture of traditional music, singing, and An Gaeilge, all rolled into one.

The seisiún had the support of Comhaltas members from all over County Westmeath, many of whom dropped in to give a lift to the new venture.

The organisers were left in no doubt about the level of interest in traditional Irish music in the Killucan and Raharney area. The locals, especially the young people, showed that they were ready for action.

The atmosphere at the seisiún ceoil was magical, and everyone wanted more. Some local people with organisational experience, such as Shay Callaghan, Des Briody, and Dónal Ó Buachalla, were there, looking on from the back and wondering how best to get a local branch of Comhaltas off the ground.

That indicates that there could be more developments soon and Camillus Glynn, An Cathaoirleach of Áras an Mhuilinn, and a native of the area, was on hand to give them Áras support if necessary.

The organisers deserve credit for their efforts in putting on such a wonderful event, and it is exciting to see what the future holds for traditional Irish music in Killucan and Raharney.
