Auction of Ann Gormley Collection

Matthews Auctioneers will conduct a clearance auction for the property of Ann Gormley, Granard, at their auction rooms in Kells on Saturday and Sunday April 15 and 16.

A well-known huntswoman, Mrs Gormley hunted five days a week in her prime, including the Westmeath Hunt. Running by appointment a successful jewellery and antiques shop in Granard for more than years, she has recently retired at the age of 90.

Matthews Auctioneers of Kells have been instructed to clear, by public auction, the entire contents of her shop, and her private collection.

Pieces range in age from the years 1760 to 2010 and auction estimates run from €10 to €10,000.

Collecting since she was a child, Mrs Gormley has a remarkable gathering of objects, reflecting her taste and interests over a lifetime.

There are more than 1,600 lots in the auction, all of which have been removed to the Kells auction premises for convenience of sale.

The auction will be conducted over two days: Saturday April 15: Lots 1-749 Jewellery and Silver; Sunday April 16: Lots 750-1,683 Antiques and Collectables.

The auction room will be open for public viewing on Thursday April 13, 11am-5pm; Friday April 14, 11am-5pm; and Saturday 15 April, 11am-2pm.

The auction commences 2.30pm sharp each day.
