Reported UFO sighting in Mullingar

A sighting of a “gigantic” UFO in the Mullingar area two weeks ago has been made to the UFO Hunters website.

The person who reported seeing the object said that the sighting was short, lasting just around four seconds.

“I was looking up at the stars walking home and I saw a sharp black triangular aircraft that had three red lights on each corner,” the person wrote, stating that the episode occurred on Sunday March 26.

The object appeared large: “It seemed very far away but it was bigger than the size of the moon,” they stated.

There was also no sound: “It moved quickly across the sky heading in the direction I was facing from me until the roof of my house covered it,” they added.

While the text described the lights on the item as red, a summary provided described the object somewhat differently, stating “Triangle with three white dots on each corner seemed gigantic in size”.

Ballymahon

The sighting comes just six weeks after a Ballymahon resident claims to have also spotted a triangular-shaped UFO over their town. According to The Longford Leader, the person told them that at 8pm on Friday February 17, they saw and recorded the movement of a triangular craft with lights.

The caller told the newspaper: “It was very clear that night. The three lights were on the angles of the craft, the body was black. The lights were the colour of an orange flame. The speed that they moved at confirmed it was not an ordinary aircraft.”

2021

In July 2001, a report describing another alleged UFO sighting in Mullingar was filed on the National UFO Reporting Center website. The report, filed anonymously by a 43-year-old poster, described an eight-minute sighting which occurred at 1.45am on May 4, 2021.

According to the writer who posted to the site, the craft was circular and remained stationary in the sky for the eight minutes. The informant stated that she was in bed, and at about 1.40am, her partner entered the bedroom with the intention of retiring for the night.

Happening to look out the window, he was taken aback by what he saw and he shouted his girlfriend’s name and that there was something in the sky.

"I jumped of the bed to see it and there was something big circle shape and flashing lights and changing colors, green, red, yellow, blue etc," (sic) the woman wrote, making clear she too was shocked.

The item was "huge" she said, adding that it definitely was not a drone.

"It was in the same place up in the sky and not moving. We were looking at it and in shock," she wrote.

About five minutes after first seeing the UFO, the woman picked up her mobile phone to begin recording the sighting, but her efforts to capture any footage were thwarted: as soon as she put her phone to the window and tried to record it, she says, the object immediately turned off the lights and took off: "It was as [if] they knew I wanted to record it," the woman said.

She added that she tends to be a sceptical person, and she had never previously believed in UFOs.

The last previous report from Mullingar to the site was made in July 2016, when a poster described a 24-second viewing of two triangular craft and a connecting energy beam.

Prior to that, there was a report filed on November 25, 2011. It stated that around 5.30-6am, while out walking his dog, the informant noticed a red flashing light going across the sky.

It then became a yellow flashing light.

The informant thought at first that the object was a plane, but then realised it was flying in an odd pattern: "it moved up and down and also went faster and slower, like it was hovering in the air".

When he got home, he looked again and just over his village, noticed a white light hovering over the village and going back and forward and up and down.

The next morning the informant witnessed a similar spectacle, but when he attempted to take a photo, the lights disappeared.

"Up to now I was very skeptical about all this but as of now, my mind is in two places as to what is going on around here in the night sky," the informant wrote.
