Mullingar Harriers look to defend 2022 senior team title
National 10k titles on the line at Great Ireland Run
More than 2000 participants, including a strong team from Mullingar Harriers, will line up for the Great Ireland Run at 10am on Sunday (April 16).
Mullingar Harriers look to have plenty of strength in depth as they look to defend their 2022 senior women’s team title.
Last year’s champion Sinead O’Connor (Leevale AC) will look to defend her title in the women’s race. O’Connor, whose 2022 win marked her first national title, won’t have it all her own way, as last year’s second place finisher Ciara Wilson (DMP AC) has also entered.
Wilson, the 2020 national indoor 3000m champion, finished within 20 seconds of the Leevale athlete last year and another thrilling tussle could be on the cards.
Michael Clohisey of Raheny was the 2022 champion, but as he and the second and third placed men last year have not entered, the men’s race looks hugely competitive.
Jake O’Regan (St John’s AC) has been flying in recent months, picking up first place in the Cobh 10 mile (50 mins 47 secs) and will be one of the leading contenders for gold, alongside Pierre Murchan (Dublin City Harriers), who is sure to go well for the host club.
The familiar face of Irish 400m record holder David Gillick (M40) is also taking park, for Dundrum South Dublin AC.
Crusaders AC finished ahead of Clonliffe Harriers in the senior team standings last year and will look to lead home what looks a strong Dublin entry.
The Mullingar Harriers runners are: James Cribbin (M50), Pauric Brady (M40), Clodagh Foley (FS), Johnny Morrissey (M35), Emer O’Hanlon (F50), Maura Dervin (F55), Paul Ginnell (M55), Mary Stuart (F55), Patrick Muldoon (M40), Paul Byrne (M55), Linda Cunningham (F40), Eddie Newman (M55).
