Kilbeggan and Tyrrellspass to join forces

As difficulties with player numbers continue for rural GAA clubs, two football clubs are to join forces for the under 17 (minor) championship in Westmeath this year.

Tyrrellspass and Kilbeggan Shamrocks, two traditionally strong areas, will amalgamate for the grade as neither have enough players to make a team on their own. They had entered separately in division four, but could not field.

The joint request was put forward by Barry Kelly (Westmeath Coiste na nÓg Chairman) at the County Committee meeting on Wednesday evening and duly given approval.

Meanwhile, Mr Kelly thanked all clubs who participated in the recent Féile football and hurling competitions, the finals of which took place in TEG Cusack Park over two weekends.

The Division 2 hurling competition will take place in Collinstown on Sunday.
