Davitt's planning proposal for rural one-off housing being reviewed

Senator Aidan Davitt's proposed amendment to the Planning and Development Act 2021, aimed at removing one-off rural homes from Section 7, is now being reviewed by the Department of Housing.

The amendment seeks to address the unintended consequences of the act, which have made it difficult for rural one-off homebuilders in Ireland to build their homes.

The non-rolling over of the five-year planning permissions and the change in law mean that one-off homebuilders must go through the entire planning process again, causing significant delays and financial burdens. Senator Davitt believes that a five-year extension to planning permissions would resolve the issue and alleviate the problems faced by affected families.

"I'm delighted that the minister is reviewing our proposed amendment to the Planning and Development Act. Rural families starting off in life have been disproportionately affected by the unintended consequences of the act. Our amendment seeks to provide relief to these families and allow them to build their homes without unnecessary delays," said Senator Davitt.
