Sunile from Clonard is looking to buy an apartment in Mullingar, which he says has the best of both worlds.

'Help Me Buy A Home' in Mullingar says Sunile

In this week's episode of Help Me Buy A Home, a new show on Virgin Media One which follows the journey of house-buyers amidst Ireland's housing crisis, we meet 27-year-old Sunile who is looking to settle in Mullingar.

Hosted by buyer's agent Liz O'Kane and comedian Michael Fry, this is a series about people who are at a point in their lives which should be joyous but is instead a massive financial, emotional and life-impacting minefield.

Sunile works as an online retailer and is living at home with his parents in Clonard.

"I feel like I'm a 27-year-old teenager," he says, adding that he is more than ready to leave the cramped quarters, where he sleeps diagonally in his bed in order to fit.

At the beginning of his journey, Sunile admits that while he likes the quiet life, he also wants access to a town, and is aiming for an apartment in the Mullingar area, stating:

"It's such a great bustling town, but there's quiet areas as well, so it has a bit of both for me."

Making music in his spare time, Sunile tells Liz that among the items on his wish list is space for a home studio which is currently housed in a shed in the family garden, a "good kitchen" to prepare food, and room for a home office.

As part of the Help Me Buy A Home format, show presenter and buyer’s agent Liz O’Kane brings him through the process of viewing properties and deciding what he’s looking for, before going through the bidding process.

They view two properties in Mullingar, where Liz explains "prices are on the rise" with the average two-bed apartment costing in the region of €150,000 in 2022, as well as a property in Kilbeggan, where she points out that prices have increased by 7% in the last year, but still remain slightly more affordable than Mullingar.

So where will Sunile chose? Watch episode 2 of Help Me Buy A Home on Sunday April 30, Virgin Media One, at 8pm.
