Game on: All-Mullingar darts final takes place tonight

After many months of action, just two teams are left standing and the final of the North Westmeath Darts League will take place tonight in Cullen's Bridge House Bar, Mullingar.

The final features two Mullingar sides, Clarke's 'A' and Shamrocks, both of which have played really well to reach this stage. Shamrocks, who play out of the Mullingar Shamrocks GAA Club House in Springfield, had to do it the hard way as they held off a terrific fight back from Grennan's (Milltownpass) in the semi-final to win in the final leg (7-6).

Clarke's 'A' took a more straightforward route, playing arguably the more impressive darts as they overcame The Wagon Wheel (Ballynacargy). They won some crucial away games to set up a facile win in the finish and while it was a fine result on paper, they would surely have preferred more competitive games to prepare them for what is likely to be a serious test this evening.

Clarke's 'A' finished the league stages as the top team and there was very little to separate the sides when the met: it finished 3-3 after a great match in Springfield which suggests there's very little between them.

The first team to reach seven games will take the crown and it has the makings of a great match as some of the leading players in the county 'toe the oche'.

Keith, Ali and Dylan Powell will be in action for Clarke's 'A' in tonight's final.

Action will be underway at around 10.15pm.
