Green light given for Mary Lynch's renovation

The new owners of one of Westmeath's best known rural bars has been given the green light for a major renovation.

The successful planning application by the new owners of Mary Lynch's in Coralstown, local entrepreneurs Declan Murphy, Hugh Farrell and Shane Clifford of DSH Holdings, includes details for a 75.3sqm extension to the east of the current building, the relocation of the toilets, and the removal of two en-suite bedrooms.

The trio purchased Mary's Lynch's from the Moriarty family, who bought the landmark pub in 1986.

When the sale was first announced last April, proprietor John Moriarty thanked the pub's customers for their loyalty over the years and wished its new owners the best of luck.

"Myself and my wife Mary have traded here for almost 36 years since 1986 when this was the main Dublin-Sligo road that now backs on to the N4 dual carriageway.

"We have enjoyed being beside the Royal Canal and Dublin-Sligo Railway line and living in the superb community of Coralstown, Kinnegad and Mullingar during these years. We have had a fantastic time here and thank all our local and regional patrons for their support over the years.

"As our lives move on to what we hope will be a more relaxed phase, we wish Declan Murphy and Hugh Farrell and Shane Clifford the very best with their plans for this premises and location. We are very excited by their plans for this premises and are delighted to hand this over to proven operators who understand and operate in this business at the highest level."

DSH Holdings's portfolio includes Bonobo in Smithfield Dublin, Impala in Cork and Caribou, Galway.
