Calvin Doyle celebrates after his success for Olympic Boxing Club, Mullingar.

Great success for Olympic Boxing Club

Olympic boxing club, Mullingar has seen 10 competitors win All-Ireland titles over the last few weeks in the National Boy/Girl 1-6 All-Ireland Championships.

The club had 21 boxers in championship action, with 10 of these boxers winning national titles and three youths just losing in the finals on split decisions. It has certainly been a wonderful period for the Mullingar club.

All-Ireland final results:

Girl 2, 45kg: Kayla Nevin beat the Leinster champion, 3-2.

Girl 3, 35kg: Louise Joyce beat the Antrim champion, 4-1.

Girl 3, 53kg: Evie Crichton beat the Munster champion, 3-2.

Boy 3, 50kg: Jason Donoghue beat the Ulster champion, 5-0.

Boy 4, 48kg: Eddie Corcoran beat the Connacht champion, 5-0.

Boy 4, 63kg: John Donoghue beat the Munster champion by round 1 stoppage.

Junior 1, 52kg: Calvin Doyle beat the Dublin champion, 3-2.

Junior 2, 54kg: Niamh Keogh beat the Leinster champion, 5-0.

Junior 2, 60kg: Ryan Jenkins beat the Connacht champion, 5-0.

Junior 2, 57kg: Jack McNamee was involved in a controversial decision where one of the judges scored the bout 29-28 in Jack's favour, but later changed his score card when Jack got a warning in last round, which would have made the fight a draw. But having awarded Jack two rounds in the fight, he chose to change and gave the verdict to the Ulster champion.

This was later raised at a meeting and duly corrected, with Jack also awarded the All-Ireland title as he had won the bout on judges score cards, 3-2.

Olympic boxing club Mullingar has now won 14 All-Ireland titles for the year 2023 and 80 in total since they opened in the 2014/2015 season. Next up for Olympic Mullingar is the national Junior and Senior Cadet Championships.

Congratulations to all our boxers and coaches on what was a great championship for the club.
