Herbal cannabis worth almost €150,000 seized in Westmeath

A parcel containing almost €150,000 worth of herbal cannabis was seized at a premises in Athlone yesterday (Wednesday), Revenue has announced.

The seizure was made during routine operations in which officers were examining parcels at a premises in the town.

Over 7.3kg of the drugs were found in the parcel, which had come from Spain and was due to be delivered to an address in Dublin.

Revenue said the cannabis had an estimated value of €147,200, and that investigations into the matter were ongoing.

The seizure was part of Revenue's ongoing operations targeting the importation of illegal drugs, and anyone with information on drug smuggling is asked to contact Revenue in confidence on 1800 295 295.
