All-Ireland boxing joy for Medford
Eve Medford of the Ballynacargy Boxing Club captured an All-Ireland title in fine style when she overcame two very strong opponents in recent competition.
Eve denied Serena Concannon of Munster in the semi-final, stopping her at the end of round one. In the final, the Ballynacargy boxer beat Nanci McMonagle from Ulster.
Eve boxed brilliantly throughout the whole tournament and her performances did not escape the Irish selectors. She now becomes the second boxer from the Ballynacargy club to qualify for a place on the national team.
Eve will join Robyn Kelly as both go forward to represent Ballynacargy and Ireland. Eve will be joining the Irish team to fly to Italy for a round-robin tournament, while Robyn will be part of the Irish side which leaves for Holland to compete in the Eindhoven Boxing Cup.
This is a fine achievement not only for Eve and Robin, but for their coaches at the Ballynacargy Boxing Club and for the club in general. It follows on from some previous success by some of their other boxers and keeps their proud record going against some of the bigger clubs in the country.
