Community Games indoor soccer finals prove a success

The annual Westmeath Community Games indoor soccer competition for girls and boys aged under 10 and under 13 was held in Streete Parish community hall. Due to the high number of entrants, the event was ran over two days.

Teams from Coole Whitehall, Athlone East, Drumraney Tang and Mount Temple Baylin competed in the girls section. The competition provided great entertainment for those present with skills, commitment, sportsmanship and pride playing for their local communities. The winners of the under 10 girls tournament were Drumraney Tang, with an excellent Athlone East side runners-up.

In the under 13 girls, Mount Temple Baylin took the spoils, with Coole Whitehall runners-up in a closely contested game.

The boys under 10s was won by Collinstown Fore, who demonstrated a fast free-flowing brand of football against an excellent Mullingar Dublin Road South team, who contested right up to the final whistle.

The under 13 boys final was between the two teams from Athlone East. Both teams qualified after playing closely contested semi-finals against Coole Whitehall and Drumraney Tang. The final would have graced any competition, both sides competing were technically excellent and free scoring. Both would have been worthy winners and this summed up the competition over the two-days from the girls and the boys who entered.

Well done to all areas for their support and commitment to their local communities. Thank you to Streete Parish Community centre for the venue and everyone involved in organising and hosting an excellent two-day event which was hugely enjoyable for participants and spectators. Thank you to Richard for coordinating and refereeing.

A big thank you to Oliva from Coole Whitehall for all help given over the weekend; to all the volunteers in Streete; our parents, supporters and players.

Best wishes to all winning teams and managements as they progress to represent the county at Leinster Community Games finals in April.

The Leinster Community Games finals for indoor soccer were held on Saturday April 29 in Longford.
