Mullingar Athletic crowned CCFL Division 3 Cup champions

Mullingar Athletic 2 Kinnegad Juniors 1

Mullingar Athletic AFC completed a very successful season last Sunday with a 2-1 cup final victory over Kinnegad Juniors in Clara. The result means Mullingar Athletic have captured both the league and cup titles which is a fine achievement for all concerned.

Despite a strong start to the game Athletic found themselves a goal behind following a poorly defended corner which saw Kinnegad take the lead.

Athletic, however, continued to play some good football and created multiple chances before equalising following a goal line scramble. It was a Tito Aluwafunmilade goal that left the sides deadlocked and the Mullingar men were back in contention.

The second half was a very evenly-contested affair, with both sides defending well.

However, in the final three minutes of normal time, a defence-splitting through ball saw Athletic snatch a late winner with a well-taken goal from Darren Bitu.

A league and cup double is no easy feat at any level, so full credit to the players and coaches on a fantastic season.
