Local fans meet Liverpool legends in Mullingar

A big event at the Mullingar Park Hotel saw Liverpool legends Jan Molby, Gary McAllister and Steve McManaman greeted by the many loyal local fans, who had the unique chance to meet their heroes.

Mullingar itself has a huge number of Liverpool supporters and efforts are underway to set up a supporters club in the town. The event was organised by Mullingar's Derek Irwin, under the name Turnstile Promotions. Speaking to the Westmeath Examiner, Derek explained that there was a big local involvement.

"We try to keep all work available local, from our front of house, security, drivers and sound engineer, who were all from the town. We are very lucky to have local businesses support us: a special mention to all in Buckley's SuperValu, who have supported all three events we have organised. I really appreciate Declan McGuinness in Eddie Rockets and Marina in QTP for helping us get over the line," he said.

MC for the event was comedian Jed Stone.

Between them, the three Liverpool legends played over 500 games for the Merseyside club and they are well known on the international football scene also: Molby played for Denmark, with McAllister a Scottish international and McManaman playing for England.
