CAB seize cash, cannabis and electronic devices

The Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB) conducted a search operation in Westmeath, Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Roscommon, and Cork yesterday morning, Thursday May 18.

CAB officers were supported by the Regional Armed Support Unit, gardaí attached to Westmeath, Galway, Mayo, Sligo, Roscommon and Cork and the Revenue Customs Dog Unit.

€59,000 cash was seized.

The operation resulted in the seizure of the following:

• €59,000 cash

• Cannabis to an estimated value of €2,000

• Documentation and electronic devices

One male (40s) was arrested during the course of this operation for an offence under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1977/84, as amended, and detained at a Garda station in County Westmeath.

He has since been released without charge and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The search operation marks significant progress in an ongoing proceeds of crime investigation targeting multiple properties and land believed to be acquired with the proceeds of crime, gardaí said in a press statement.

Investigations are ongoing.
