Lisa on her wedding day.

Tributes flow for the late Lisa Donoghue Hogan

Tears flowed freely among family, neighbours, friends and the entire community at the news of the untimely passing of Lisa Donoghue Hogan, 68 Whitehall, Tullamore and formerly of Riverdale, Raharney, on Sunday May 7.

Lisa was a proud Raharney hurling and camogie supporter all her life. She was very much part of the club’s underage set-up, lining out for her beloved camogie club before going on to be an integral part of the backroom team, training and promoting many of the underage players coming through the ranks.

Camogie club tribute

In a glowing tribute to Lisa, John Weir of the Raharney Camogie Club described her as a jewel in the crown of the club and said her presence will be greatly missed.

“Lisa had it all. She was passionate about the game from a very young age, she was a rising star with great potential when, unfortunately, she experienced serious illness curtailing her playing career.

“Despite her illness, Lisa remained focused and determined to see Raharney go from strength to strength. Her contribution to the club was immense – even through times of indifferent health Lisa was sure to appear, from nowhere, on the sideline to urge on the players, to say that she gave it her all would be an understatement, she was the heartbeat of Raharney Camogie.

“We are very proud and grateful to have had her play such a pivotal role in the success of our club.”

Lisa is fondly remembered by her fellow students from Raharney National School and Loreto College, Mullingar, as an exceptionally bright student and even through her frequent bouts of illness, she continued to excel.

Her schoolmates saw her as a very genuine and caring person, fun loving, always enjoying the banter; with an amazing sense of humour, a wicked wit with infectious laughter, and always inspirational.

Lisa greatly appreciated the love and security of home life, family meant everything to her, the encouragement, the sharing, the music, the banter, enhanced by the beautiful sense of freedom afforded her, allowing her to reach out and achieve and make her dreams become reality.

One of those dreams truly became reality late last year when she walked down the aisle of St Brigid’s Church, Raharney, with the love of her life, her best friend and husband Daniel.

The bond of love is so very special and going to conquer all challenges, true love knows no boundaries and is endless and the proof is Lisa and Daniel.

Lisa’s beautiful funeral Mass was celebrated by her very close friend, Fr Frank Monks MI, assisted by Fr Stan Deegan PP in St Brigid’s Church, Raharney. The celebration was further enriched by the family participation, reflecting her deep reservoir of Christian values. Following Mass, the funeral cortège, with her club’s dignified guard of honour accompanying, moved slowly through her beloved Raharney and on to Rathwire Cemetery, where she was laid to rest.

Sincere and heartfelt sympathy is tendered to Lisa’s soulmate and husband Daniel, parents Carmel and John, sister Ava, brother Conor, grandmother Maureen, grandfather John, mother-in-law Miriam, extended family and wide circle of friends. Ár dheis Dé go raibh a hanam dilís.
