The late Joe Sheridan, RIP.

Family organise St Vincent de Paul 5k to honour late Joe Sheridan

Joe Sheridan, Monaghanstown, and late of Sheridans Roadhouse, whose first anniversary occurs at this time, was a great admirer of the St Vincent de Paul Society and of the quiet, practical work they do in the community.

As an active member of the society for many years, he was well suited to it because he was all about quiet, practical help. From delivering dinners to people who were going through tough times, giving lifts for hospital appointments and visiting people who were sick, Joe was always available with an empathic non-judgemental ear for anyone who needed it.

As a friend of his put it, going into the Roadhouse to see him was often like a therapy session. His many quiet deeds and deep kindness are dearly missed by all who knew him.

Joe’s family, led by his daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Michael Gannon, will honour his first anniversary with a fundraiser for SVP and hope to see many old friends there for The Joe Sheridan Memorial 5K fun run in the hope of continuing a little of his goodwill.

The Joe Sheridan Memorial 5k family fun run and walk, in aid of St Vincent de Paul, takes place on Saturday June 3 at 1pm at Belvedere House and Gardens. Donations will be accepted on the day and via the St Vincent de Paul fundraising page.

The Society of St Vincent De Paul was a charity very close to Joe’s heart, and this memorial fundraiser aims to honour his life and legacy by helping those in the community.
