A watering can uses a lot less water than a hose pipe

Uisce Éireann says water levels under 'constant review'

Water Restrictions were in place for three nights Thursday, Friday, and Saturday last covering the extensive area supplied by the Mullingar High Level Water Supply Scheme (WSS).

This includes Ballinea, Dysart, Castletown-Geoghegan, Ballinagore, Kilbeggan, Horseleap, Streamstown, Gaybrook, Milltownpass, Rochfortbridge, Dalystown, and Tyrrellspass.

Some of these areas may also have been impacted by periods of low water pressure, says Uisce Éireann, who in a statement provided to the Westmeath Examiner, explained that alternative water supplies had been provided at Bryanstown, Milltownpass, Rochfortbridge, and Tyrrellspass.

"The decision to impose restrictions is not made lightly as it has a negative impact on customers, many of whom may have extended periods of disruption as the water pressure builds up in the network and may also increase the risk of bursts on watermains," stated the water utility company.

"No more restrictions are currently planned. However, water levels are under constant review and the situation can change due to increases in demand from customers or bursts in the network.

"Uisce Eireann have mobilised additional repair crews to fix any known leaks in this area and are also pressurising watermains locally in areas with high elevation to return water to attic storage tanks."

Uisce Eireann continues to ask the public to assist by conserving water, by reporting any leaks on the public water network and by repairing any known leaks in their properties.

For more simple ways to conserve water customers can check out the Uisce Éireann website where our conservation calculator (www.water.ie/calculator) can help people work out how much water they are currently saving and how they can conserve even more.

Members of the public can also report any leaks in the public water network by contacting Uisce Éireann 24/7 at 1800 278 278 or on water.ie.
