Did Niall Horan's grandad drive the train in the Great Train Robbery?

During a recent episode of Trainspotting with Francis Bourgeois, Niall Horan revealed that his grandad, Robert Horan, was a train driver.

"My dad tells me he drove the train in the old movie, the Great Train Robbery," said Horan, who was travelling from Liverpool Street Station to Harrow Town for the episode.

Talking to TikTok's favourite trainspotter, he told Bourgeois that his grandad was a train driver in Mullingar, and that he drove the Dublin to Sligo train.

"Apparently, he was was one of the last steam train drivers in Ireland before it changed over," continued Horan.

Niall also talked of his overnight rise to fame at 16, saying how he "found it nuts".

"It was all just a bit of a shock to the system," he said, explaining that he went from school, football and homework to overnight stardom with One Direction.
