Westmeath fans in Sydney cheering on the Girls in Green

Well-known Mullingar sports journalist and columnist Gerry Buckley is in Australia cheering on the Girls in Green in their first appearance at the Women's World Cup.

A long-time devoted follower of the men's national team, who attended Euro 88 and Italia 90 when Jack Charlton's men played their way into sporting immortality, Gerry is hoping that Vera Pauw's team write their own glorious chapter in Irish sporting history staring this morning when they face Australia.
