Long handicap Competition

In lieu of our usual long handicap competition, last Thursday we had a Senior Open competition which was sponsored by North Midlands Credit Union. Almost 100 members entered the competition, which also attracted nearly 20 visitors. And it was, one of those visitors, Pauric McHugh (12) who was the overall winner, with a great score of 41 points. Category 1 winner as also a visitor, Brain Scullion (17) with 35 points. Eamon Keegan (17) was Category 2 winner on 39 points and Eddie Tynan (24) was Category 3 winner also on 39 points. Category 4 winner was Aidan McManus (27) on 38 points. Well done to all the winners and those who participated in the competition and many thanks to our sponsor North Midlands Credit Union.

As next Thursday is the Writech Mullingar Pro AM competition for 2023, there will be no long handicap competition that day. This is a huge event for Mullingar Golf Club with former Ryder Cup player Philip Walton teeing it up and former European Tour card holders Damien McGrane, Simon Thornton, Peter Lawrie and David Higgins also in the field. The weather hopefully will be kind and spectators are most welcome.

Sunday Competition

There was no Sunday competition last week as the club Classic, sponsored by O’Brien Renault took place that day.

Interclub matches Men’s Senior Cup

On Saturday July 15 at Wexford Golf Club, our men’s Senior Cup team experienced the highs and lows that is competitive golf. In a thrilling semi-final against Moate GC, the Mullingar team got off to a great start with an early win in the first match which provided the motivation for two other wins before the final match (in which we were up) was called in.

After a short lunch break Mullingar were once again in action in the final of the Leinster Central Region, this time against Naas. With weather conditions very wet and blustery for the final the scene was set for another exciting series of matches. With the match evenly balanced at two wins each, it all came down to the final match where unfortunately Naas managed to pull ahead. Thanks to all our supporters from Mullingar who travelled and hard luck to all involved in the Senior Cup panel. The Senior Cup panel on the day consisted of Paddy Dunne and Bernard McDonnell with Gareth Carr, Adam Smith, Thomas Plunkett, Mikey Mina Roynane, Paddy Davitt, David Tynan, Gavin Flanagan and David Keenaghan. They all played their part in getting to the final and putting in such a great performance on the day.
