Mullingar Golf Club launches Scratch Cup

The launch of the Mullingar Scratch Trophy 2023 took place on Friday July 14 at Mullingar Golf Club.

In attendance were representatives of the club, Golf Ireland and sponsors, Sherry Fitzgerald, Davitt and Davitt and Pinergy. International acclaimed local comedian Conor Moore was also present.

The event will take place over Sunday August 6 and Monday August 7 and will be preceded by a practice round for competitors on Saturday August 5.

Designed to showcase Mullingar Golf Club from its inaugural event in 1963, the competition continues to attract the best amateurs of the day and has established itself as the most prestigious Scratch Trophy event in the country.

With Bridgestone Order of Merit points on offer, this demanding 72-hole event comprises two qualifying rounds of 18 holes stroke play with the top 39 competitors and ties progressing to the final two rounds.

The roll of past winners in the Mullingar Scratch Trophy reads as a veritable who’s who of the greats of Irish amateur golf.

Many of our past winners have gone on to achieve worldwide success in the professional ranks, among them Des Smyth, Philip Walton, Peter Lawrie, Darren Clarke, Paul McGinley, Padraig Harrington, Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry.

Mullingar Golf Club wishes to thank the sponsors of The Mullingar Scratch Trophy, Sherry Fitzgerald, Davitt & Davitt and Pinergy, for their continued support, as without their assistance and generous sponsorship this event could not proceed.

The club also thanks Mullingar Scratch Trophy Committee, Chairman Leonard O’Mahony and Golf Ireland for all their hard work in this endeavour.

Finally, a very special thanks to local man and comedian Conor Moore for launching and promoting the event on his social media channels.
