North Midlands Credit Union provide €160,000 to support local voluntary organisations

The Social and Cultural Committee of North Midlands Credit Union recently held their annual event to present awards to some of the local voluntary organisations that it supported this year.

The special fund is approved by the board of directors, to give recognition and financial support to voluntary organisations that make a valuable contribution to the quality of life in the local community.

This funding initiative is now in its 26th year and to date has provided some €2.1 million to voluntary organisations. This year the fund increased to €160,000 and more than 300 various organisations applied for the funding.

North Midlands Credit Union once again this year supported a wide range of organisations in the area that work in a variety of sectors and projects such as social, cultural, community development, the disability and age active sector, youth activities and sporting organisations.

Conor Isdell, chairperson of North Midlands Credit Union, speaking at the presentation night in NMCU offices on Wednesday June 28, welcomed everyone to the event, pointed out the board’s decision to increase the Social and Cultural Fund, and the satisfaction the NMCU team feels by continuing to be in a financial position to support local voluntary organsiations.

Brian Gillen, chairperson of the Social and Cultural Committee, paid tribute to the many volunteers and their organisations for their commitment and ongoing valuable work in the community.
