Eileen Alford secures Lady Captain's prize

New Forest Ladies Golf notes: Lady captain's day

A full time sheet braved the inclement weather to compete in the most prestigious competition of our golfing year, the long awaited Lady Captain's Day competition on Sunday, July 23.

The day dawned dull and rain spattered but despite the dire forecast it didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the New Forest members, who hit the fairways with gusto. Indeed there was nothing dull about the golf played, with great scores coming in. All taking part were greeted by the lady captain Shirley, fuelled up with a generous goodie bag to sustain them throughout the course. Shirley also managed to play a hole with most of the groups, which was a lovely touch and appreciated by all the competitors.

The rain threatened at stages over the day, but never impacted the player’s performance.

After the final pairings completed the 18th, the competition secretary rolled up her sleeves and took on the arduous task of declaring a winner. After much deliberation, counts, recounts and count backs, the results were in.

There was a great gathering in the main house for the presentation, all full of anticipation and eagerness to discover who was in the winning enclosure. The winners were delighted to receive their hard earned and hard fought for prizes from captain Shirley.

New Forest Golf Club men's notes

On Saturday New Forest will take on Gowran Park GC in a Leinster regional final. This will be played in Carlow GC at 10am. Having posted a magnificent record to get to this final, Mick Fallon and his team are wished continued success on Saturday.

In recognition of all the effort that team officials and players put in representing the club, Club Captain, Conor Elliffe has introduced additional prizes of fourballs in various golf clubs. These prizes will only be open to players and managers of teams representing the club. A truly great initiative that recognises all their hard work over the year.

The recent poor weather did not dampen enthusiasm for last weekend’s Lady Captain, Shirley Donergan’s prize for men.
