Leaving Cert Results Day

'Relieved' and 'happy', were the two main sentiments expressed by Leaving Cert students at Loreto College, Mullingar, today.

Many of the girls gathered in the school's concert hall this afternoon, to discuss and hug their peers, having accessed the results online earlier this morning.

It also gave them an opportunity to bid farewell to their teachers one last time.

"The excitement here today was just extraordinary," says principal Olivia Callaghan. "It was lovely to see because they were all worried about different things, the orals, the mocks, the different subjects, but they worked hard and they achieved and deserved what they got," adds Ms Callaghan.

In fact, one Loreto student, Alice McDonnell achieved 8 H1s, the highest grade, while three more students achieved 625 points, and 11 girls got over 600 points.

"I'd just like to say how proud we are of everyone and wish them all the best in their chosen future paths," concluded Ms Callaghan.

Chemistry, physics, and biochemical science, as well as nursing, teaching and homecare were among third level courses the Loreto girls are aiming for.

CAO offers are due out on Wednesday next.
