'Speeding as much a problem in villages as on main roads'

A Multyfarnham resident has contacted the Westmeath Examiner today, National Slow Down Day, to point out that speeding is also a problem in towns and villages.

Anita Tierney said: “In relation to the National Slow Down Day, can I bring to your attention the constant nagging we, as a village, are doing to TDs and councillors in relation to constant speeding through Multyfarnham.

“It is beyond dangerous at this stage what we encounter daily here and yet we get repeated replies with little or no regard to our children’s safety.

“It’s a 50km speed limit but cars and lorries race through the village at double that.

“Children walk through the village daily to and from school and the park, yet this is seemingly of no concern to the relevant authorities.

“The council recently installed a €10,000 solar powered phone charging bench in the village – which doesn’t work! Yet they can’t warrant installing speed ramps.

“The mind boggles.

“National Slow Down Day is a great idea but stopping cars on village roads is surely just as, if not, more important than speeding cars on motorways.”
