Exemption for burning bushes to run until November 30

Farmers have until the end of November to burn any green agricultural waste they have accumulated.

Welcoming the news, Minister Peter Burke says that the exemption, which runs from September 1 to November 30, will give farmers "a much needed chance to address disposal of green waste".

"I would advise those interested to contact the environment section of your local authority for the necessary permits.

“Although we are all acutely aware of the challenges of climate change, the extension of the burning bushes exemption for agricultural purposes comes after a report from the Irish Bioenergy Association who are tasked with looking for alternatives to managing farm waste material.

“We need to transition together and bring our farming community along the journey of sustainable farming practices to protect our environment while maintaining the farmland of rural Ireland,” concluded Minister Burke.
