Hot day ahead with mercury to hit 28 degrees

High temperature weather warning

Temperatures of up to 28 degrees are being forecast for today as a Status Yellow high temperature weather warning comes into effect across the country.

Met Éireann is warning of Very warm and humid weather today (Thursday) and tomorrow (Friday). The warning is valid from 8am this morning until 8am on Saturday.

Night time temperatures are not expected to fall below 15 degrees.

The public are being warned about the increased risk of water related incidents. They are also being advised to mitigate against heat stress.

Looking at the latest weather bulletin and today will be very warm highs of 24 to 28 degrees. Dry in most areas this morning with sunny spells. However, showers will develop in the southeast and spread northwards over Leinster, some heavy with thunderstorms and spot flooding possible, especially in the east.

Sunshine and isolated heavy or thundery showers this afternoon with light to moderate southeast breezes.

Tonight will be warm, close and mainly dry with clear spells and some patches of mist and fog. A few isolated showers are possible. Lowest temperatures of 15 to 17 degrees with light, variable breezes.

Friday will be another very warm or hot day with highs of 24 to 28 degrees, possibly higher in a few places. It will be mainly dry with sunny spells, though some mist or fog may affect some coastal areas. Isolated heavy or thundery showers may develop inland during the afternoon. Light variable or southerly breezes.

Friday night will be warm and humid. It will be mainly dry. But some showers are possible. Lowest temperatures of 15 to 17 degrees with light southerly breezes.

Saturday will bring bright or sunny spells and well scattered showers, some of which will be heavy with isolated thunderstorms possible. Mist or fog may effect some coastal areas. Highest temperatures of 21 to 25 degrees with moderate southwest winds.

Saturday night will be another warm and humid night with clear spells and scattered showers, possibly heavy or thundery. Lowest temperatures of 15 to 18 degrees.

Sunday will be another warm day with sunny spells and showers, some heavy with thunderstorms and spot flooding possible. Not quite as warm as previous days with highest temperatures of 19 to 24 degrees and moderate southwest breezes. On SUNDAY NIGHT, there will be some further showers. Lowest temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees.

Monday will be mostly cloudy with outbreaks of rain moving southeastwards across the country and clearing later in the day. This rain will be followed by cooler, less humid air. So, highest temperatures will range from 15 to 19 degrees and Monday night will be noticeably cooler with lowest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees.

Current indications suggest that through the rest of next week, the weather will become more unsettled with rain or showers at times and with temperatures in the mid to high teens.
