Two Irish tourists killed in Rome after being struck by car

Two Irish people have reportedly been killed in a road traffic collision in Italy.

It is believed the couple were involved in the incident in Rome, with police there stating the victims had been crossing a dual-carriagway in the south of the city.

The victims are understood to have been aged 59 and 60.

The incident reportedly occurred just before lunchtime on Cristoforo Colombo, which has been described as one of the most dangerous roads in Rome.

The Department of Foreign Affairs has said it is aware of the matter and is providing consular assistance.
