Expansion at Kilbeggan Racecourse granted

The Kilbeggan Race Committee have been granted permission by Westmeath County Council for the demolition of a storage building and loading ramp, and the construction of 12 new horse stables with concrete yards.

Also included in the application is the construction of a new general storage building and two new security huts, a new loading ramp, and the conversion of two stables into a vets sampling area.

The planning authority have also granted permission for the installation of a horse trot-up area, and the extension of existing parking facilities, as well as the installation of a new high level water tank, and raising of an existing water tank, along with connections to all site services, fencing, gates and all other associated site works at Loughanagore townland, Kilbeggan.

Refusal

Nua Healthcare has been refused permission and retention permission by Westmeath County Council for a planned development at Bethany House, Adamstown, Castletown Geoghegan.

The healthcare facility had applied to the planning authority to change the existing garage into two one-bed dwellings, as well as the alteration of external windows and door to the existing garage.

Also included in the application was a new single-storey extension to the side of existing garage for boiler housing, as well as a ramp and stair access for the new dwellings, and new timber fencing outside existing garage.

They had called for the retention of an upgraded wastewater treatment system, and had called for ancillary works to facilitate the development.

The application was turned down by the council on August 28 last.
