Wet and windy weather conditions

Weather update from Met Éireann

Today will be wet and breezy or windy, with fresh to strong and gusty southwesterly winds extending to all areas, becoming very strong in western coastal areas this evening.

The western half of the country is under a status yellow rain warning - with some counties also warned of high winds.

Met Éireann says conditions will be generally dull with rain and drizzle, turning heavy at times, and patches of mist. There will be occasional drier and brighter periods in the afternoon, the best of these in the south. Highest temperatures of 15 to 19 degrees.

It will be wet and breezy or windy tonight with fresh to strong and gusty southwesterly winds, very strong in the west, south and southeast. Rain will persist in most areas through the night and will be heavy at times, with thunder possible too. This may cause localised flooding. The rain will clear to scattered showers in the west towards morning. Lowest temperatures of 10 to 14 degrees.

Rain will clear from the east on Wednesday morning and for the rest of the day there will be sunny spells and widespread showers, some heavy with a chance of isolated thunder. It will be breezy or windy during the morning, with very strong southwest to west winds in the northwest. Winds will gradually ease through the day, becoming light to moderate by evening. Highest temperatures of 12 to 16 degrees, mildest in the southeast.

Clear spells and scattered showers at first on Wednesday night but most places will become dry overnight. Lowest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees with light to moderate south to southwest winds.

Thursday morning will be largely dry with sunny spells and just isolated showers. Showery rain will develop in the northwest during the morning and will move southeast across the country through the day but there will still be occasional sunny breaks. Highest temperatures of 12 to 16 degrees, mildest in the southeast, in a moderate southwest to west wind.

Thursday night will be partly cloudy with scattered showers. Lowest temperatures of 8 to 10 degrees with a light to moderate west to northwest wind.

Friday will be breezy with good spells of sunshine. There will be scattered showers at first, mainly in the west and north, but most places will become dry as the day goes on. Highest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees in a moderate to fresh northwesterly breeze.

Winds will ease on Friday night and it will be dry with clear spells. Quite chilly as temperatures fall to between 5 and 7 degrees.

The weekend: Wet and breezy, potentially windy, on Saturday with rain followed by scattered showers. Blustery on Sunday with sunny spells and scattered showers. Maximum temperatures generally in the mid teens.
