Rogue drivers around Delvin

The antics of rogue drivers on the N52 around Delvin were described at the monthly meeting of the Mullingar Kinnegad Municipal District by Cllr Emily Wallace.

She was calling on the council to liaise with gardaí to combat the dangerous driving and anti-social behaviour of some on the N52 between Delvin GAA pitch and Killulagh Cross. She said that what is happening is of grave concern to residents and road users. Responding, the executive said in its official response that the issue will be discussed by the Westmeath County Council and An Garda Síochána Road Safety Committee.

“The community there are actually very concerned [over] how it’s been dealt with. They have been in contact with An Garda Síochána as to what can be done about it,” Cllr Wallace said, asking if there was anything the district could do to support the community there.

Cllr Frank McDermott said he would encourage the gardaí to use unmarked cars “because with the modern technology, as soon as you appear in one spot, the friends will know there, and even 10 kilometres away, what’s happening”.
