Mullingar U12s make waves at Aviva Blitz in Kilkenny

The Mullingar Rugby Club U12 girls team, affectionately known as the ‘Mini Heifers’, put on a dazzling performance at the Aviva Blitz in Kilkenny over the weekend.

Competing against teams from Kilkenny, Portlaoise, Birr, and Tullow, they showed their talent, skill, and determination in a series of matches. They scored exceptional tries and displayed noteworthy teamwork in their first three matches, against Kilkenny, Portlaoise, and Birr.

“The girls have put in a lot of hard work during training sessions, and it was gratifying to see it pay off,” said one of the team coaches, expressing immense pride in their achievements.

The final game against Tullow was the highlight of the day, and it was an intense showdown.

Undeterred by the tough opposition, Mullingar persisted and managed to execute some well-crafted team scores.

“Tullow presented a strong challenge, but our girls held their own, showcasing their resilience and determination,” added the coach.

The club’s focus on youth development and inclusivity appears to be bearing fruit, and more girls are showing an interest in the sport.

“We’re always delighted to welcome new faces,” said the club public relations officer, highlighting that the recent success could act as a catalyst for further growth and community engagement in the sport.

Whether you’re a rugby enthusiast or a proud parent, the exploits of the Mini Heifers serve as an inspiration and a testament to the untapped talent in the community. Their performance at the Aviva Blitz stands as evidence of a promising future for girls rugby in Mullingar.
