Cedars residents want wall built at entrance

A plea to have a wall erected at the entrance to The Cedars, Lakepoint, was made by Cllr Aoife Davitt at the September meeting of the Municipal District of Mullingar Kinnegad.

She was disappointed at the official written response to her notice of motion, which stated that Westmeath County Council had bought the units as turnkey properties.

“As such, there is no funding in place for additional works,” the response stated, going on to add that the properties were certified for compliance with planning and building regulations prior to purchase by Westmeath County Council.

Cllr Davitt pressed her case, saying that the residents felt that the boundary provided should be more than just the wooden fence there at present. She said she did not believe it was the responsibility of the council to provide the boundary wall but she hoped there was something they could do about bringing construction to fruition.

Cllr Mick Dollard supported the motion, and said the HSE, whose property adjoins the site, should be asked to address the issue. He added that in general, planners considering applications for planning permission should take into account the boundary treatments proposed.

“In this case, we should write to the HSE because they are the major property owners adjacent to this particular development,” he said.

Director of services, Deirdre Reilly, agreed to write to the HSE to establish what its plans are.
