Almost 100 asylum seekers to be relocated in Coole

Almost 100 people seeking international protection (IP) are to be relocated in the north Westmeath village of Coole.

In a message sent to the wider community yesterday, Deputy Robert Troy said that he had received an email from the Department of Integration informing him that it had signed a one year lease for apartments in the Coole Court development and that 98 children, women and men would be moving to the village. He added that the families are people “ fleeing their own countries in fear of their lives”.

“Past experience has shown with engagement between the existing residents and new arrivals we can ensure positive experience for all.”
