Mullingar finalists in SEAI Energy Awards

Anticipation is mounting as the finalists for the SEAI Energy Awards 2023 were unveiled on Tuesday, and among them was Mullingar Sustainable Energy Community, which was set up in 2018.

Their ambition is to build a 100% community owned solar farm on the former landfill site just outside the town.

Mullingar SEC have met some challenges in securing grid connection. However, they remain positive and are active in exploring all avenues. They are doing this by working with ESB, local representatives and creating awareness within the community on the project and what it will achieve for the future of Mullingar.

Having launched their Energy Master Plan and launched it in June of this year, another major action out of the plan has been assisting the Women’s Community Project, a charity organisation, on their SEAI Community Energy Grant application.

The awards, which will take place on November 18 next, recognise exceptional achievements in sustainable energy and decarbonisation across various sectors, these awards celebrate individuals, organisations and businesses that are leading the charge in Ireland’s energy transition.

Mullingar Sustainable Energy Community's nomination in the Inspirational Sustainable Energy Community Category is a testament to their remarkable dedication to sustainability and energy efficiency. Their commitment to inspiring positive change within the community and beyond has earned them this well-deserved recognition.

The Mullingar Sustainable Energy Community was set up as a sub-committee of the Mullingar Chamber, and now has over 20 members with a wide range of expertise from across the community. They are all involved in raising awareness of saving energy in the community and businesses.

All finalists represent a wide spectrum of sectors, each passionately contributing to a sustainable energy low carbon future. The high quality of entries for the SEAI Energy Awards 2023 reflects the innovation and dedication prevalent in Ireland's sustainability landscape.

William Walsh, CEO of SEAI, said:

“Each year, we see an ever-increasing standard in the SEAI Energy Awards for sustainability, highlighting the emergence of exciting new sustainable energy solutions from businesses across the country. It’s more important than ever for Ireland to have role models who exhibit the highest levels of drive and innovation, and so I commend this year's nominees, whose dedication serves as a source of inspiration to others”.

The winners of each category will be revealed at a special awards ceremony on November 16 next.
