Local choir wins two awards at prestigious festival

A local choir recently claimed two major awards, including the top prize, at the prestigious Derry International Choir Festival.

The Lynn Singers, an upper voice choir based in Mullingar, made the trip back home with a couple of awards from the festival, which celebrated its 10th anniversary last week with a packed schedule featuring top class national and international choral groups.

Enjoying the celebrations and revelling in yet another win at this event, the Lynn Singers claimed first place in the ‘Sacred and Gospel’ section, and then managed to top that with an overall win in the ‘Choir of the Festival award’.

Competing against the best of Irish vocal ensembles, Lynn Singers were delighted to win this tightly contested event yet again, coming a very close second place in the ‘Light, Pop and Jazz’ competition.

Under the directorship of local conductor and musician Dervilla Conlon, Lynn Singers has grown in its achievements and repertoire since its inception, taking on many challenging vocal works.

The choral group continues to enjoy singing in the local cathedral and performing in collaborative concerts and events in Ireland. Their next event will be held in Multyfarnham Friary on November 26 next at 5pm, with the programme including the Irish Chamber Orchestra, and members of Vocative.

Tickets are available from the Topic Newsagents and Multyfarnham Friary Office.
