Gifted Offaly musician wins at Cavan festival

Gifted Offaly musician Ademar O'Connor earned another award last weekend when he was crowned the first place winner in the senior fiddle section at the Ed Reavy Trad Music Fest in Cavan.

The 20-year-old from Edenderry was selected as the top performer by the judges who said they had "a very difficult task given the exceedingly high standard of all competitors" at the event in Town Hall Cavan.

The festival, which first took place in 2015, celebrates the music of Irish-American musician Ed Reavy who was born in Cavan and was a renowned fiddler and composer of traditional dance tunes.

In a post on social media, the festival said Ademar was chosen as the Senior Ed Reavy Fiddle Champion for 2023 after he played "a beautiful rendition of the Reavy tune, Both Meat and Dhrink".

Ademar is current All Ireland Senior Fiddle Champion and also won the prestigious Fiddler of London on his first attempt this year.
