Candlelight memorial walk across Athlone bridge

Have you lost a loved one or friend to suicide or traumatic death?

On the evening of Tuesday, October 31, Hope Trust will be facilitating a candlelit walk across the Athlone bridge over the Shannon river and laying a wreath in memory of all those whose lives have been lost. At a time of year where people are focussed on death, Hope Trust would like to have a celebration of life and include support and prayer for those who have lost loved ones to suicide.

The candles signify light entering the darkness and bringing hope to those who are in despair.

The event will end with worship and a memorial service at the Town Centre square in Athlone. Organiers intend to pray for those who have been affected, worship and share a testimony to the goodness of God. A God who cares about those who are struggling with the pain of loss.

All are welcome to attend.

Meet at the Castle opposite St Peter and Paul’s church at 7pm. Walk to the centre of the bridge and lay a wreath – people are welcome to lay their own flowers in memory of the lost if they wish. Attendees will then proceed to the Town Centre canopies where we will pray and bless the town of Athlone.

Their hope is that despite so much uncertainty, darkness and confusion in these days people would know they are not alone, that there are people in this town who care, but most especially that God cares – they are not alone.
