Mysterious goings-on at The Downs during Trunk or Treat on Sunday

Scores of ghouls, spirits, and other spooky beings haunted The Downs on Sunday afternoon and evening as a A Halloween event with a twist took place.

Carley Kelly, chairperson of The Downs Community Forum, explains the mysterious goings-on: “We’re here today at Trunk or Treat – so ‘trunk’, you decorate the book of your car, and you trick or treat around, and you come back in for a movie and entertainment.

“We also have a Hall of Horrors this year, where the tweens and teens, and the adults too, put a huge amount of work in, to add the extra feature.

“It’s all in aid of a new, inclusive playground with an outdoor gym and recreational area at The Downs. We have lots of sensory items and inclusive equipment going into it. We have a grant from the Dept of Rural and Community Development, but we have to make a contribution too, so this is the event to help push that forward.

Carley thanked her colleagues on The Downs Community Forum committee, Sharon Foley, Cathy Garvey, Paula McCormack, Fionnula Kenny, Niamh Murtagh, Aisling Walters, Aoife Murphy, Bernadette Martin, Anne Marie Corroon McGrath and Muriel Flynn, “and special thanks to Elaine Egerton and Nessa, for helping us decorate. Without them, this event would not be what it is today, and we’d like to a massive thank you to everyone who came along to support us in our fundraising efforts”.
