Major drugs haul discovered in Midlands town

A man has been arrested following the seizure of €246,000 of suspected cannabis herb in Offaly over the weekend.

The discovery was made on Saturday morning (November 4) following the search of a premises in Clara.

The search was conducted by Gardaí from the Laois/ Offaly Divisional Drug Unit and Regular Unit with assistance from the DMR West Drugs Unit.

During the course of the search, approximately €246,000 of suspected cannabis herb was seized.

The drugs will undergo analysis by Forensic Science Ireland (FSI).

One man, aged in his 50s, was arrested and is currently detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996 at a Garda station in Offaly.

Investigations are ongoing.
