Áras an Mhuilinn bids farewell to Camillus

An Bórd of Áras an Mhuilinn, the regional Comhaltas centre, have organised a farewell function for Camillus Glynn, who has retired from his position as cathaoirleach after 13 years.

The board members gathered in honour of Camillus’s “outstanding service and unwavering commitment”, to acknowledge a legacy that has left an indelible mark on the heart of Irish music and culture.

Ardstiúrthóir of Comhaltas, Labhrás Ó Murchú, sent a message of congratulations and gratitude to Camillus Glynn on his 13 years of service to Áras an Mhuilinn. He said Camillus has played an instrumental role in the growth and success of the cultural centre, ensuring that the rich tapestry of traditional Irish music continues to flourish in Mullingar.

Paddy Duffy, national treasurer of Comhaltas, and a member of An Bórd of An Áras, was present at the farewell function, where he outlined the numerous accomplishments of Camillus during his tenure as cathaoirleach.

Paddy noted that Camillus’s role was often all-encompassing, and it seemed as though he was a full-time chairman, always present, day and night, especially during the early years of the centre.

Paddy also highlighted the fact that Camillus’s tireless efforts, along with those of others, were instrumental in bringing the regional centre to Mullingar. Their dedication to preserving and promoting traditional Irish music has been instrumental in shaping the cultural landscape of the region.

In his final address to An Bórd, Camillus expressed his deep gratitude to all those who had gathered to bid him farewell. He noted that while he was retiring from his role, he would remain a staunch supporter of An Áras. He added that he would continue to attend on a regular basis, particularly to relish the performances of his old friends, ‘Ceoltóirí an Mhuilinn’, during their regular sessions.
