€50k allocation for design and planning on new greenway link

An allocation of €50,000 has been announced this morning, Tuesday, to help meet the cost of development of a greenway link from the former railway station at Castletown Geoghegan to the village itself.

The allocation is for design and planning work on the project.

Discussions on creating the link have been going on for some years now, and in fact the development of a link was listed as an opportunity for the area in "Better Together", a community plan for Castletown commissioned by Westmeath Community Development drawn up to cover the years 2018-2023.

In addition, as far back as 2020, Cllr Ken Glynn submitted a query asking what enhancements to the greenway were in the pipeline. The response to his query stated that a funding application to establish a direct link between Castletown Geoghegan and Castletown Station was successful in 2019.
