Westmeath Women’s Shed fundraising craft fair, Belvedere

The Mullingar branch of Westmeath Women’s Shed held a fundraising craft fair in Belvedere House and Gardens on Saturday November 25.

Among the items on sale were knitwear, jewellery and candles, all handmade by members. Facepainting and glitter tattoos were also available at the family-friendly event, and all proceeds went towards the running of the group.

Speaking to the Westmeath Examiner, Melanie Hughes Fox, co-founder of Westmeath Women’s Shed, said: “I’d like to thank all the staff in Belvedere, who have been great and support us all the way, the ladies who came here today and all the people who came out to support us to buy items, to help fundraise for our group.

"And just all the ladies who gave up their time too, to work on the stalls and everything today.”

Members of Westmeath Women’s Shed’s Mullingar branch meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 9.30am in Belvedere, where they have a garden and a polytunnel.

A space for women to share skills, learn crafts, and reconnect with themselves and the wider community, the project aims to improve mental health and wellbeing through social interaction. Registration for new members opens in January. The annual fee of €60 includes full access to Belvedere House as well as a wide range of classes and courses.
