Wilson’s take victory in Science Week ISTA Quiz

A team representing Wilson’s Hospital School won the recent annual ISTA (Irish Science Teachers Association) regional quiz, held in the Nursing building, TUS Athlone.

There were 28 three-person teams and in all some 120 enthusiastic students, teachers and parents present for the event, representing schools from Mullingar, Athlone, Granard, Moate, Ballymahon, Tullamore, Longford, Strokestown and Elphin.

The questions were based broadly on the Leaving Cert subject syllabi of biology, chemistry and physics and consisted of eight rounds of six questions. The top four teams go forward to represent the region in the national final to be held in TCD.

First place went to the Wilson’s team of Vaughan Sheahan, Juliet Hunter and Niamh Grier; second went to Cnoc Mhuire, Granard; and third and fourth places went to the Mercy, Ballymahon.
