St Finian's TY students present School of Rock this week - they say it would be a great night out ahead of Christmas for the local community.

St Finian’s College TYs present School of Rock

Excitement is building ahead of this week’s production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s School of Rock: The Musical in St Finian’s College, Gym. The Transition Year students have been working hard on this show since September, and it is curtains up this Thursday. The musical is based on the beloved 2003 Jack Black movie, which was adapted for the stage by Julian Fellowes, and has new added music by Andrew Lloyd Webber.

The show tells the story of Dewey Finn, a young at heart rocker down on his luck, desperate to pay the rent, who takes a teaching position in the prestigious Horace Green Elementary. The only problem?

He is not qualified to teach, and is impersonating his best friend Ned Schneebly! Although his intention is to ‘recess’ his way to some easy money, he soon discovers that the students, who have been stifled by the strict rules of their school and parents, are brimming with musical talent. With that, Dewey decides to form a new band.

More than 100 students have worked on this production, and everything seen on stage is entirely their work, from painted and designed sets to costumes, choreography and of course, live music.

The students would like to thank their teachers for their guidance and all of the local businesses for their support. In particular they would like to thank North Midlands Credit Union for their sponsorship.

The three shows take place on Thursday, Friday and Saturday 14th, 15th and 16th, starting at 7.30pm. Tickets available at the door.
