Two men arrested in relation to fatal debs crash

Two individuals have been arrested by gardaí investigating a fatal crash near Clones that claimed the life of two young girls on their way to the debs last July.

Two men in their 60s and 40s were arrested this morning (Friday), December 15, as part of the investigation.

They are currently being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a garda station in County Monaghan.

Kiea McCann (17) and Dlava Mohamed (16) lost their lives in the crash, which occurred at Legnakelly on July 31 last.

Their distraught families, in death notices posted online, said the teenagers were best friends who died alongside each other.

Two others remain were seriously injured as a result of the collision, while a third sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

All four passengers were students of Largy College on their way to Clones to celebrate debs night with their friends.

It's understood the vehicle left the road and hit a tree.

Kiea and her family lived at Fitzpatricks Square in Clones. She was predeceased by her brother Jason.

Kiea is survived by her heartbroken family - her mum Teresa, her father Franky, brothers and sisters; Brandon, Jentzen, Frankie, Michaela, Shauna, Shaunice, Tameaka, Tanisha, Amelia; her grandmothers Mary Ellen McCann and Anna Rose Flynn; her nephews Tadhg and Liam; her uncles and aunts, cousins and friends.

Her best friend Dlava Mohamed lived with her family on The Diamond in Clones.

Dlava was the daughter of Hohamed and Zenab Mohamed. She is survived by her brothers Mostafa and Rashid and her sisters Lilov, Asmahan, Auin and Giham.

Gardaí have said this morning that investigations are ongoing and further updates will follow.
