The organiser of a ‘shaving night’ in Killucan in aid of the Irish Cancer Society was "overwhelmed" by the public support.

The event took place in Tom’s Bar on Friday December 1, where lots of local lads either shaved their heads or got waxed to raise some funds.

Nicola Bennett said she decided to put the night together to raise money "for all the cancer sufferers in the world, hoping that we can make a change".

MC on the night was Kieran Leavy, while Kerry Deegan and Ashley Deegan were on shaving and waxing duties respectively.

"I’d like to thank all of the local businesses in Killucan and Raharney who donated," said Ms Bennett.

"I’d also like to thank all of the bidders, the shavers, and everyone who got shaved or waxed for taking part."

Ms Bennett said she was surprised by the strong turnout.

"I’d like to thank everyone who turned up because we were totally overwhelmed by the support and the fact that the pub was wedged within five minutes!"

A raffle with items donated from the community also took part over the course of the evening.
