Friday meetings kick off in Mullingar

Mullingar Greyhound Stadium staged their first meeting of 2024 on Friday January 5 with their additional SIS meeting which will run every Friday morning at 11.49am.

Navan owner James Slevin recorded the first leg of a double in the 525 yds first race with Timahoe Cavani which is trained by Jamie Slevin. Having been led to the last bend by Hawkfield Cassie he took the lead into the home straight and sprinted home four lengths clear from the early leader in 30.31.

The Slevin combination completed the double in the 525 yds fourth race with Da Quiet Mystery. After breaking in front he held pole position all the way to score by a length and a half from Swift Hazed in 30.50 and opened his winning account at his fourth attempt.

Owen McDonagh recorded the first leg of a double in the 525 yds seventh race with Badgerfort Pluto which he trains for Galway owner Owen McDonagh Jnr. After breaking in front he made all the running to score by four and a half lengths from Hennos Barney in 30.19.

Howsdoegan completed the double in the 525 yds ninth race for Owen McDonagh Jnr. Having been led in the early stages by Annual Hunter, he took control down the back straight and powered home two lengths clear from Drombeg Zeta in 30.41.

The best return of the session was posted in the 525 yds fifth race by Alamo Spartacus. Sliabh Mor broke in front and made practically all the running but he wasn't able to deal with the strong finish of Alma Spartacus, which came on the home straight to win by a length and a half in 29.78 for her Meath owner Billy Reilly and trainer Ian Reilly.

From a level break in the 525 yds second race Ballycairn Banjo took the lead rounding the first bend and held pole position all the way to win by two and a half lengths, from the chasing Crokers Harbour, in 29.86 for Meath owner and trainer, Evan Henrick.

Navan owner Conor Duffy supplied the winner of the 525 yds third race with Catunda Archie when he powered home two and a half lengths clear from Geisha in 30.14.

Cian Loughman's (Laois) owned Barking Mad and returned to the winners enclosure in the 525 yds sixth race when she flashed from traps and made all the running to claim victory by a length and a half from Hennos Norm in 30.00.

Croker's Captain did the business in the 525 yds eighth race for his Galway owner John Croker. After taking the lead in the back straight he made all the running to hold off the challenge of Abrakebabra Scar by one length in 30.14.

In the concluding tenth race, over 525 yds Jaxx Firefox took the lead at the first bend and gave a trap-to-line display to win by a length and a half from Stac Lee in 30.13. The winner is trained by Beatrice Steiner for the Alpine Rose Syndicate, Cavan.
